Maca and Impotence
Impotence
is a permanent male dysfunction having as a result the total
absent of erection. The erectile dysfunction is the impotence to
have or maintain a normal erection on sexual activity. This
dysfunction affects commonly up to 50% of men from 40 to 70
years old.
Causes These may be related to physic or psychological
dysfunctions, but the main causes are derived from physical
alterations responsible for erection mechanism such as:
arteries, blood stream and nerve system. These alterations can
be manifested with depressions, cholesterol, heart-diseases,
blood pressure and diabetes. It also can be caused by some
medicaments or harmful habits like smoking, alcohol and stress.
In some cases the absent of the optimal level of testosterone
may be the origin.
So it is suggested to ask the doctor to find the specific
causes involving your erectile dysfunction. Symptoms could be
reflecting a serious health problem. The most important step is
to identify the origin in order to treat the source of the
problem.
Alternative Therapy
Most medicaments treating this problem are known to have
several health risks; that's why many men with this problems are
treating with natural products. It has been proved by scientific
studies and the experience of many doctors the positive effect
of maca treating this problem. MACA is considered one of the
natural ways to solve erectile dysfunction due to its
composition demonstrated in medical studies and trials. We have
one reasearch - made in Cayetano University Peru :
| Lepidium
Meyenii (MACA) effect on sexual desire and
its absent relation with serum
testosterone levels in adult healthy men. |
| Experience |
Random experience,
placebo effect controlled, 57 adult
healthy men (21-56 aged). Daily
administration, 1,5 - 3 grs. gelatinized
MACA. |

The study was made in 12
weeks with placebo effect controlled,
randomized and with parallel trial in
which it was compared active treatment of
different doses of MACA gelatinized with
placebo. The aim was to demonstrate
whether the effect of MACA on subjective
report on sexual desire was due to an
effect caused on mood or on serum
testosterone levels. 21-56 aged men
received MACA in one of two doses: 1500
mg, 3000 mg of placebo. Self - perception
on sexual desire and score on Hamilton
test for depression and anxiety were
measured at 4, 8 and 12 weeks of
treatment. |
| RESULTS |
After 4 weeks of treatment,
two men treated in placebo group reported
an increase on sexual desire (16.6%)
meanwhile no men in this group had an
increase on sexual desire at week 8 or 12
(0,0%).
At 4 week, 24,4 % of men treated with
MACA reported a several increase on sexual
desire. At week 8 and 12, this
increase was notified respectively by
40,0% and 42,2% of men in
the same group. The main difference
between the group of MACA and the one
treated with placebo was remarked at
week 8. Serum testosterone and oestradiol
levels were neither different in the group
treated with MACA nor in the one treated
with placebo (P :NS). Logistic
regression analysis showed that MACA has
an independent effect on sexual desire at
week 8 and 12 of treatment. In conclusion, treatment with MACA improves
sexual desire. (see

MACA, known as the “Peruvian ginseng” or “natural
Viagra”, could regulate the organs responsible of the creation
of hormones (activation of hypothalamus, pituitaries and
glands), bringing the body to a right hormone’s balance.
Therefore, maca can be used as preventive way for hormonal
changes and also for giving the body: nutritive support,
increasing sexual desire and improving sexual activity ( Dr.
West). Its action has been identified in the blood stream so
sexual potency is increased directly on pelvis area of men. |
